Hi. I am about to start Paclitaxel infusions on Wednesday. I am trying to organise a lift and wondered how long an infusion session lasts.

  • Hi

My appointments were usually scheduled for 2pm but the chemo suite was nearly always running late so it would often be 2.30 before I was sitting in a chair.

Assuming there were no other hold ups I was usually ready to leave between 5.30 and 6pm.

  • I had 12 weekly infusions. The actual infusion took an hour, the pre meds about 30 minutes then allow for delays and faffing! If you’re using a cold cap add in another couple of hours. I was usually in and out in 2 to 3 hours.

    1. Thankyou both. That suggests at least 2 hours plus they did say I might need monitoring for the first one. I will have to arrange a different lift home as the person who offered has an appointment afterwards they cannot be late for
