Hey,
You are not alone in this club!
I’ve recently had a mastectomy. Was meant to have immediate reconstruction after but unfortunately it failed so I’m part of the one titty crew! I’m 36…
Because I was having reconstruction, I got a bra from m and s but didn’t wear it after the mastectomy.
I didn’t wear any bra cos of the wounds after surgery. Kept it free from a lot of things. It was covered with a dressing.
Have you got a breast care nurse? Maybe ask them for advice?xx
Hey,
I had a mastectomy 3 weeks ago, I have recovered well. I have only worn a bra if I have gone out as I left the wound to heal .
I bought a padded non wired from M@S the body range is good as they use really soft elastics. I also bought a 3 pack non wired bra top which has a slight removable padded cup. The breast unit gave me a padded cookie, which can be placed in any bra.
Asda and Tesco have cheaper versions of the m@S bras. I would not go buying loads you probably won’t need them. Hope this helps.
Hope your surgery goes well, I thought the recovery would take longer, I was driving by 2 weeks .
xx
Mine was glued too in the end. but still required a dressing…
My surgery ended up being complicated but if I didn’t have the DIEP I think I would have been driving much sooner.
I left it approx 4-5 weeks cos of my abdomen wound. But I would have probably been about 2 weeks too!
Yes non wired for sure. They also gave me a ‘softy’ but I have been given a prosthetic one now for when I wear a bra. Which is only when I go out and even then, it’s not every time xx
I suggest you check with your BCN as every unit seems to work differently. I got issued with a bra (front opening) and a couple of washable ‘softies’ as my hospital likes to keep pressure on the mx side to help with preventing too much swelling. I was advised to wear it day and night for the first couple of weeks. And yes, I did get some swelling. However I wasn’t too uncomfortable.
I didn’t wear a bra that often afterwards as I had radiotherapy so used to wear just to and from the appointments so I didn’t get too sore.
hugs xxx

I was told to get a soft bra that did not have underwire and did up at the front. As I had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction I had to wear a bra all day every day for the first month or so for support. I ended up buying mastectomy bras from cancer research uk. They ended up being really good for me as they straps came undone as well as doing up in the front so when they had to use the doppler to listen for the blood flow it was easy for them to access the implant. They were also pretty supportive as they had wide sides and shoulder straps. About 3 months post op now and I'm wearing sports bras a bit and finding that they are pretty good now.
