Hi, just wondering if anyone out there has been diagnosed with HER2 positive breast cancer , had a masectomy and then refused any chemotherapy treatment after. I am having a dilemma at whether to have treatment after my masectomy and clear lymph nodes . Thank you

  • Hi SaraT, did they tell you why you would not be having chemo. I got diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in January 24. When the results came through that I was HER2 positive, I was told I would need chemo, plus phesgo injections.  I then had a mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction, followed by radiotherapy. I'm still on the phesgo injections, plus I have zoledronic acid infusions every 6 months, for the next 3 years. Maybe it would be a good idea to get in touch with your breast care nurse, she could maybe make some enquiries for you. Xx

  • Hi daisy24, I think I worded my message wrong and didn’t check it before I sent it See no evil . I was diagnosed with HER2 positive breast cancer, I have had a masectomy and then I started chemotherapy with hope that I could start trastuzumab along side the chemo. But I have a heart condition which they think could be risky to start the trastuzumab as it can cause more problems to the heart.  What I would like to know if anyone out there just had a masectomy and no chemo/trastuzumab treatment after and how they have got on.  Sorry my original message sounds nothing like what I wanted to ask.  I am waiting for my breast cancer nurse to get back to me x

  • Oh I see and totally understand their concerns regarding your heart. I have to have an echocardiogram every 3 months, due to the phesgo, as it can cause heart issues. I hope someone can answer the question, who has had the same experience as you. I wish you well moving forward. Xx
