My Lobular cancer was missed by mammograms , spotted by ultra sound and mri (although. Positive mode was missed)

I am anxious other areas could be missued

What do you think is the very best way to be scanned and how often and how soon after operations and radiotherapy where you scanned??

thanks as always !!

  • Hi C22

I haven't got an answer for you and as your post has slipped onto the second page of the forum I thought I'd reply to you to move you to the top of the discussion.  Hopefully someone will be along shortly with some advice for you.

Best wishes and I hope you have a lovely Christmas.

  • My 2cm didn’t show on mammogram. I had seen a thickening on skin . Very hard to see on ultrasound too . I had lumpectomy in March and radiotherapy in May . My next scan will be mammogram in April 2025.

i has my treatment with BUPA, so I can ask for an ultrasound . Despite being private , my surgeon is reluctant to offer MRI . When I last saw him , he mentioned going back to NHS.

i actually saw an NHS a oncology professor 2 weeks ago ( TRAK ER trial ). He was firmly of the opinion that I should have an MRI because my tumour hadn’t shown on mammo.

He promised to write to Gp but letter hasn’t materialised yet .

I think it’s a postcode lottery as to what follow up you get.

  • Thanks and you too!

  • Hey klf

    yep sounds just like me

i am going for an ultrasound on January (6 months post operation) - that’s at my request.

i am going to ask very firmly about mri

mammograms useless for me - lobular plus dense breasts!!

somewhere there was a letter you coukd print out to pass on to gp to insist on mri……

  • I will message you

  • Is it possible to get a private breast mri

  • Yes but I think you need a referral letter .
