Had breast cancer last year and have first annual check in 2 weeks and I’m getting anxious. Do they mammogram and scan. I had mammogram after diagnosis and it never showed anything  so not confident unless I also get scan.

  • Hi Angy Pangy welcome to the forum. As far as im aware they only do a repeat Mammogram but maybe if you had a chat with them and explain why they may look at offering a scan. It's usually as I say just a repeat mammogram.

  • I had my first surveillance mammogram and was called back for a repeat. During the repeat they were still not happy so I was sent back to the waiting area whilst they organised an US Scan which showed scar tissue only, so I was clear.

Not the nicest experience but happy in the end.

  • Hi there, with mine I had a physical examination, which I always find good as I am never so sure when I self exam, and a mammogram. You should definitely explain your concerns about something being missed to see what they say.  Best wishes, I know it's an anxious time.

  • I totally get you!
My first annual check will be in January. My mammogram didn’t detect my cancer so when it came back’ all clear’ despite having puckering and symptoms,I ignored it…until one day there was a lump! Within weeks I was diagnosed with cancer. I have a duty of candour meeting tomorrow to discuss my future ‘surveillance’ as the repeat mammogram that I have been offered doesn’t really offer me much reassurance as even if it’s clear it doesn’t mean I don’t have cancer.

    I want an ultrasound too.

Apparently only 84% of breast cancers are detectable by mammogram. I just wish I’d known that then!

  • I’m know it’s a hard one as you don’t want to feel like a pest but I’m not gambling on reoccurrence not being detected
