I had the full works in 2022 for breast cancer and had a bone scan in December 2023 showing ‘suspicious’ areas in pelvis ribs and spine. Oncologist has requested an urgent CT scan but I have since learned it will be 9 weeks before I get one. Is this normal? Any ideas on what I can do? V v anxious about what this wait might mean foe spread of the cancer
Hi Daisy, I’m sorry to hear this. I completely understand your anxiety. I have friends who are having very long waits for their scans, and also for their subsequent results. Like you, the scans were ordered to check for suspicious areas. However, my friends have been scanned earlier than originally advised because they made it very clear to the CT booking team that they would take any cancellation, and at very short (less than 24 hours) notice. Results have been obtained by nagging, unfortunately. I’m sorry I can’t be of any more help xx
Have you asked if you could have the scan at a different hospital? Not sure if it’s relevant once you are already “ in the system “ but I do know you can choose where you want to be referred to at the point of referral. Maybe it also applies further down the line too. Worth checking out
