Waterproof “chicken fillet”

I had a lumpectomy last year and now have one boob almost half the size of the other. I’m going on holiday in Feb and really want to wear swimwear, but will need some form of chicken filet to fill out the smaller boob!

I’ve seen loads of posts for mastectomies but not for lumpectomies. Can anyone recommend anywhere that does ones suitable for swimming?

thank you!

  • Just a long shot but for £10 it could be worth you buying a m&s prosthesis and cutting it to shape. The main thing is it has to be foam, not sponge.and m&s cheap prosthesis is foam. I bought one for swimming and it works well but I use a prosthesis so haven’t cut it.  If you can’t find a waterproof fillet maybe take the risk with this.
Best of luck and enjoy your holiday. X

  • Thanks   I thought they might absorb the water but assume that’s not the case? I shall have a look, perhaps the smaller sizes might not need cutting!

  • You might need a prosthesis swimsuit. Otherwise how will you keep it in place!   Nicola Jane has some nice mastectomy swim suits and the might be on offer at the moment.

  • Luckily my swimsuit has pockets for padding so hoping I can just slot in there! I’m quite big busted but have a small back so have never been able to just buy dress size swimwear which is what Nicola Jane has, either it’s too loose round my back or too small round the bust! So sadly that site doesn’t help me at all!

  • Hi I don't know if you are aware but you can get a prosthetic on the NHS for free. I had a lumpectomy and was left with half a boob which was getting me down. I spoke to my breast care nurse and she made me an appointment to be measured up. I saw a lovely lady from Trulife at my local hospital who sorted it out and it was delivered to my home within a few weeks. Honestly the difference it makes is amazing and no-one can tell I am wearing a "chicken fillet". I would have paid for this myself once I had seen them as they are so good. Hope this helps

  • Hi   I did not know this, I will get onto my BCN tomorrow. Thank you!

  • Try Nicola Jane online. You can find one on there. There may well be a sale on now. You also dont pay VAT as a breast cancer patient. Also knitted knockers do free ones but they do show a little through your costume and have very little weight to them. That said, I used mine a lot.

  • Thanks   unfortunately none in the sale and at £54 each they’re a bit steep for me! Will take a look at knitted knockers though, not heard of that one!

  • Hi,

My hospital had rep in to measure for prosthesis and I got a swim one with my 'normal' one. The company they link with is amoeba - they might have something online. Mine was a full boob, but they might have others.

  • Thanks   I have left a message for the BCN to call me back. There seems to be very little help and advice for lumpectomy patients sadly, I will see what they say!
