Hi I’m just wondering how people have dealt with having a mastectomy I know you should not be bed ridden but how are others coping
Hi again.
Have you had the op yet?
I was in theatre 11, on ward 2, home 5 same day, no drain and only took paracetamol one day. Ive taken some before sleeping one night. I was on a 10 minute walk with company to escort me 2 days post op, 20 minute walk 4 days post op. Sleeping is tough as i dont sleep on my back. But Im getting around 5 hours or if I take zopiclone I can get 7 hours- but trying not to take it only on essential night eg before appointments or if struggling to drop off. The heart shaped pillow under the arm helps not to roll. Also finding my bog V shaped pillow handy. Scar is stinging a little bit but its not bad enough for pain killers. Ive been able to load washing machine with the other arm 8 days post op and did a basic iron yesterday but my husband carried everything to its place. Bathing myself in a shallow bath. Washed my own hair yesterday - dry shampoo has been a friend. Wipes also - washing underarm isnt easy, a well squeezed flannel or wipes are better and i dry the armpit straight away just settle a towel in there so that the water doesnt affect my dressing- it had started to peel under the arm and the between boob area so ive stuck a dressing over it each end.
