Hi, I'm not sure if anyone can advise me or not or has had a similar experience.

  1. Had my lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed 4 weeks ago, and on Friday I started tamoxifen I was in the shower today ...and got the shock of my life when washing my hair as it was coming out in clumps. And all over the bath! I was not expecting this at all so I just burst into tears. When brushing my hair it was coming out too...is this normal after only 5 days on tablets?.

Many thanks for reading and may you all be safe xx

  • HI

I am so sorry that you are having this on top of everything else!  I  have ever only heard of hair thinning with the ER reducing drugs. Losing your hair in clumps when you haven't had chemo. has got to be extremely unusual - which is why you probably haven't had a reply from anyone on this forum yet.  Hormone changes can cause changes to your hair but not to this extreme - especially after only 5 days.

It will definitely be worth talking to your doctor as, do you think, it might be a reaction to the stress of all you are going through?

I took anastrozole for 5 years (I've been off them a year now) and I didn't have any thinning, but the tablets definitely affected the condition of my hair.  So, definitely, make an appointment with your doctor and ask for their advice.

    Kindest wishes, Lesley

  • Hi Lesley, thank you for the reply...as I said I was a bit shocked and not sure what was happening, my hubby thinks night be the stress and worry. The breast clinic nurse is phoning me tomorrow so I'll wait and see what she says

Thanks again, stay safe and take care xx
