Cold capping???

Hi

I have had 2 cycles of EC in the last month and due another next week, I have cold capped for both of those sessions, i had very long nearly waist length hair but decided to chop to a short bob befo I started. It is coming out in handfuls now, I woke up with what resembled a dead rat on my pillow this morning See no evil .
I want to continue cold capping for the duration as I think it can help hair grow quicker afterwards so just a couple of questions for anyone that has done it

Would I be best to get it cut into some sort of very short cut as I will still be capping? I’m thinking it won’t be able to be done if I am bald? This way I can still cap and use a wig, I am wearing a beanie at the moment….

If anyone has any advice or suggestions if they have also used it that would be great (I’m not looking forward to embracing the friar tuck look as I think it will come out mainly on the top of my head)

thanks Blush

  • Hi Fluffy

i cold capped for all 6 cycles (3 x EC & 3 x Doc). I’m so glad I did as regrowth was so much quicker. I didn’t cut my hair until 2 weeks after my last Doc when I had it cut short all over to totally even it up. I used a wig as my hair came out 2 weeks after 1st EC. I never went bald so no need to shave.  Oh and Kerastase anti hair fall shampoo (pink range).  Good luck.  Fingers crossed

  • Thanks so much for your reply!

I think I will do the same as you, I have 4 cycles of each so I will just have to see how it goes and how much ends up coming out. I will get it cut in January then, I just wondered about packing it under a wig but if there’s a lot less of it then it might not be as bad as I thought.

I will look into the shampoo right now! I am going to brave washing it as well I’ve been too nervous to wash it since last Wednesday See no evil

    fingers crossed Grimacing

  • I washed mine. Just make sure you get a really tight fit on the cap and it’s in contact with all of your scalp. What I had left was fine under a shoulder length wig. It was covered and not bulky. The regrowth has been phenomenal! So thick. Try Revitalash for eyelashes and rapid brow for brows too. Best of luck Fingers crossed

  • I used cold cap for first two cycles ec then gave up during third session as it made me feel sick cycle 2 and cycle 3. Lost all my hair but it has grown back really well even though I didn't use cold cap for 4.5 of my 7 cycles. Finished chemo in may and have good hair cover already. I'm using biotin supplements which I think have really helped.

  • Yes I take biotin too from Holland & Barrett. Good point - forgot about that!

  • I buy mine from Amazon - cheaper and stronger

  • Thanks so much Blush I now have the eyelash and brow things in my Amazon basket, the hair fall has stopped for today so I’m hoping that’s it now rather than each cycle but I will need to wait and see Fingers crossed tone1

  • Hi. I too, despite losing loads of hair, gave kept the little that I have.  I have had 4 EC’s and now 3 docetaxels, 1 to go.  Can I ask when you started taking the supplements and using Revitalash? Was it after treatment? Thank you!

  • I haven't used revitalash. I started taking supplements after my treatment finished. I had an appointment with my oncologist when I started radiotherapy and asked him if it was ok before I ordered . I still lost hair for about 6 weeks after chemo.

  • Hi.  Thank you for getting back so quickly.  Just noticed that it was someone else who suggested Revitalash.  Good news that your hair has grown back well despite continuing to lose hair after chemo.  I will do the same, however, I have surgery next (early December) and probably won’t be having radiotherapy until the new year now.  Will ask my oncologist about when I can take the supplements. I have two weddings to attend in June and July - kern to get my hair back.  How long did it take for your eyelashes to return? Thank you again.
