Hi

I just started taking letrozole on Monday along with the zoladex injection. Tuesday I started with some spotting now since yesterday I'm bleeding, I finished my period last week, after having an endometrial ablation 2 months ago for heavy bleeding.

Am I going to have to deal with constant bleeding on letrozole? Is this normal it mentions spotting for a few days but not actual bleeding? Anyone able to offer any thoughts. I'm reaching out as I'm not in a good place mentally anyway with no.real support, so am struggling a little bit to be honest so Amy help anyone can offer be much appreciated

  • Sorry you are having this additional worry  .It isn’t a usual side effect of Letrozole. For reassurance I think you should contact your BCN. Take care xxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Hello @Cheekymoomoo

I am sorry you find yourself here, it is such a journey we take and knocks us about both physically and mentally.

I am not medically trained and my writing here is purely from my own thoughts and knowledge.... saying this since taking medication I question my knowledge or should I say memory - then again it could just be trying to take too much on.

My concern is you say you finished your period last week - I thought Letrozole was prescribed for ladies that have gone through the menopause ? -

You could ask this question (I was of the opinion ladies that have not gone through menopause are normally prescribed Tamoxifen, this said maybe there are reasons Letrozole could be prescribed pre-menopause - I honestly don't know.

Another thought on the bleeding - could it be your body settling down after the endometrial ablation - your body settling down (getting ready for your next period).

These are thoughts - for peace of mind you need to speak to your Consultant, Doctor or BC Nurse - these are the only people that will know the answer.

As for not been in a good place mentally - it is hard, take it a day at a time - we are all here for you and between us we can give you emotional support.

Should you find you have trouble sleeping etc - I'll attach a link to the 'AWAKE' thread - many of us go here both day and night - for support, a chat, a laugh, a cry or to ask questions.

I hope this helps a little xx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Hey

sorry you find yourself here . I get Prostap injections and letrozole . I actually started these injections  before I was menopausal, it’s supposed to be after a few months but my onco made the decision . Anyway , I digress ! Sometimes you can get a bleed at the start after the first injection and it’s literally just the effects of the oestrogen suppression. Or should usually only be the once though and not happen every time . So , it’s the injections , not the letrozole apparently

    xx

  • Hello. I had to stop taking tamoxifen and started zoladex and letrozole. I also had a period which was quite heavy and was told it was estrogen withdrawal and it was quite normal for this to happen x
