Hi everyone had My Mastectomy a week ago my drain came out yesterday I am desperate for a bath any advice please

  • Check with your breast care nurse before getting the surgery site & dressings wet, I waited a few weeks until all that was removed & drains

I would say a luke warm shower would be better first if that is available. Turn you back to the shower jet and let the warm just flow over your shoulders for a few times as will be very sensitive. I used a hypo allergenic shower gel too & just pat your self dry

    Best wishes x

  • Hi I had a mastectomy in may .Had my drain out a week later Couldn't wait for a bath go for it but don't get your scar too wet just dab it .By the way I did not have dressings on mine after a week it was ok to go without .But everyone is different you can always put on a new one after you have bathed xx

  • I had a shower once I had my dressing off - it was advised to use just water around the m/x area to avoid any infections. Unfortunately I managed to get cellulitis so had to have 2 weeks of antibiotics. Also use a clean towel each time you dry the area.
