Hey All..
18 months ago I had my last breast scan with a Birads 3 and a 17mm ‘growth’ in my armpit.
Denial and ignoring the problem led to me not following up.
I know have a noticeable lump in the underarm region above my chest with the occasional discomfort.
I thought it would be maybe a muscle problem as I’m a Runner so I had a physio massage and the lady suggested I go check it out as she was feeling a slight bump there.
Has anyone had BC that started off in the underarm region?
Did it hurt?
I’ve booked an appointment but it’s weeks away and I’m not sure whether to go private and get seen to quicker or am I worrying about it too much.
Thank You for your advice and May God Bless each and every single one of you who are on this journey.
Hi, I was getting pains in my breast and a lump that was consistent and would only flair up in evening mainly which was near to armpit, left it 3 weeks then went to doctors whi referred me to breast clinic, had mammogram and ultrasound which showed up 3 lumps, 2 in lymph nodes and main lump I couldn't feel. Biopsies were taken and he said in his opinion its a small cancer. On 22nd of June was diagnosed with Grade 3 invasive ductual breast cancer oestrogen positive and her2 positive. I have just had 4th cycle of chemo. 2 left and just started targeted therapy injections which I will be on for a year, after chemo I will have surgery and then radiotheraphy.
Hi Twopeas welcome to the forum. I think you have almost answered your own question in that you have said that you went into denial and did not follow up on this? You may not be able to feel any other lumps for example that could be in the breast and this may in fact be a swollen Lymph node both in your arm and in your neck. These usually only come up like that when infection or Suspected Cancer may be present and need checked out urgently by medical personnel.
You need to be seen asap and need to therefore contact your GP surgery and explain the need to be seen soon and be examined and then they will put onto the 2 week referral pathway to the Breast Clinic. You know and i know that this is not going to go away and needs seen sooner rather than later so no more denial and no more putting off, get that GP appointment made and please do deal with this. I recognise that it is scarey but most Cancers are now perfectly treatable when caught early.
Thank You Gail for your very honest answer.
I thought it was in my head as I’d feel pains occasionally but brushed it off as ovulation or hormones as it would actually hurt most at those times then I could go weeks without a niggle.
I will get it checked on Friday with my GP and hopefully get a referral..
Once again, Thank You.
Nicole
