Hello. Had BC at 49, tamoxifen for 5 years. Menopause at 58,I know very late. BC again at 62. Didn't take tamoxifen this time, I'm still suffering from the joint issues it started. For the past 8 years the chest head and neck sweats have got steadily worse.

I was told yesterday that I was not alone that it was common with this type of history. HRT is not an option.

So am I alone or are there more people out there walking round dripping wet, smelling like wet dog for 90% of the time?

  • Hi  , I’m sure I remember you from a while ago…. If so, welcome back, and if not, welcome to the forum! Yes I’m a fellow very hot and sweaty Betty. I’m sure in my case it’s the Anastrozole. I had hot flushes with my ‘natural’ menopause but nothing like these, and just being so constantly too hot. The only saving grace is that it’s not the totally soaking type of hot flush, more of a feeling of inner combustion accompanied by a coating of sweat rather than a drenching. That’s the best way I can describe it anyway! Sorry if tmi!! What I find most irritating is constantly having to strip off layers to cool down, then feeling chilly so having to layer up again. Though in this current weather there’s very little of the chilly! Temperature control is just a constant ongoing struggle, especially when travelling. The only thing I found that helped was a course of ear acupuncture which I had over 3 years ago, at the Maggie’s centre at Addenbrookes. Might be worth looking into if you’re near a Maggie’s or other cancer support centre. Xx

  • Yes I was on here four years ago. Mine is sweat. You know when you squeeze a soapy sponge and the bubbles come up through the holes?? That's what I imagine my head would look like if I was bald. Hair literally drops and sweat pours down my face like I'm facing a shower.

I use to teach and in hot weather boys would wet their hair and by 2.00p.m. The smell of wet dog was overwhelming. I get a wiff of myself every now and again and that's what I can smell. A very socially deprived area so the children didn't always have great hygiene levels. So embarrassing and exhausting.

  • I think I remember you HappyFeet.

  • Yes! I’ve been off Tamoxufen for almost 3 months and there are times it can drip into my eyes and/or down my nose! But the episodes are ‘slightly’ fewer. I also got awful foot and calf cramps, built up to be really severe for about the last year, they too are gradually easing.

    Hope you find things improve….

  • I’ve been off it 12 years!! They tried to give it to me four years ago. It was going to improve my chances of getting BC again by 1%. I’m afraid after the first lot of side affects I declined their offer. So we shall see.
