Hello everyone and I hope you are all ok?

I had left mastectomy just over two weeks ago. I’m now waiting for results appointment in just over a week.

I had sentinel node biopsy at same time as mastectomy and reconstruction.

I know this is a waiting game but really scared of what they’ll tell me.

Has anyone else experienced this at all /have any advice?

 Thank you

  • Hello,

yes, that waiting, it’s the pits, isn’t it? But the team need to discuss the results and any changes it might make to your treatment from now on, plus in my experience the HER2 results take longer to process, in my case a good 2 weeks post-op.

Rest assured they will be working away in the background, and will come up with the right way forward for you

if you’ve any worries, remember we are here, the helpline too, and of course your team.

  • Oh Moomy thank you!
I had several tumours and they were all hormone positive / sensitive and some HER2- and I think some were HER2 +.
Does this change do to think? x

  • Aha, so you already know about some of the HER2 status? I didn’t. My guess is that they will want to double check and decide the best way forward for you as an individual, these days treatment really is scaled to the person, not the ‘one size fits all’ approach that they used to follow.
    hoping you get answers soon

  • I’m scared that the sentinel nodes may have cancer in them, but as you say, waiting is hard!

Thank you again for your reply

  • The waiting for results is the worst imaginable time of this whole process. I was the same! However once you get your treatment plan your anxiety will reduce. Try to keep busy. Don’t google. Face what’s in front of you when it happens. Good luck Fingers crossed

  • Thank you Rugbyfan x

  • Hi Jax,

So sorry you find yourself waiting.

I think everyone here will be sympathising with you as it 's a really horrible and frustrating time with the imagination working overtime.

It 's such good advice not to google as it tends to make everything so much worse, sadly I know this from personal experience.

I wish you all the very best, love and hugs to you while you are waiting and I hope you will have your treatment plan very soon. xx

  • Oh thank you so much WMK. Yes waiting is hard Sob
