Hi im not sure if this is right place for me as feel a fraud as I’ve not been diagnosed but wondered others experiences

i had a pain in left breast felt like bruising

Went to GP and she referred me to breast clinic aa she could feel something different between both breasts not a hard lump but lumpy and definitely diff to right side

But turns out not a breast clinic it was just a mammogram

that will be two weeks ago this coming Monday

i was told 2/6 weeks for results

i have spoken to breast clinic who said it could take up to  4 weeks for my mammogram to even be looked when I called on Tuesday then yesterday i had a call to go for results but unfortunately I couldn’t make it was was away for the night.

i spoke to breast clinic again who said i prob need an ultrasound but couldn’t tell me anymore so got more waitjng and sleepless nights

so i wondered has anyone else experienced this and would this delay in results mean good news Blush

  • It’s horrible being in limbo, but all you really can do is try to stay as calm as possible, as busy as possible (to take your mind off the inevitable worry) and practise mindfulness of ‘being in the moment’

Sadly the NHS is near-drowning because of so many cuts and people leaving the service, but rest assured they WILL  look at your mammogram and will call you for further investigations if they decide you need them.

  • Thanks alot for the reply

have you had experience of this is waiting time ?

just thinking no news is good news  x

  • Not so long, our hospital has a ‘one stop shop’ where you have mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy and see consultant and a named nurse on the same day. But yes, there’s always a wait for full results. In fact some of the results can easily take 2-3 weeks from the lab. My treatment was 5 years back now, I’ve just finished all medication a couple of months back.

  • Aww glad you have finished treatment a d hope you are ok now ?

Yes my area used to do that but now has changed

im just thinking no news is good news

    thanks xx

  • Yes, I’m doing ok and the side effects of those meds are easing at last, thank you.

I really hope you don’t have to wait long, waiting really is the pits! But necessary to ensure your case is assessed fully, discussed within the whole team and a treatment plan formulated if it’s needed. Be reassured that bc treatment these days really is pretty good and many ladies (and men, as they too can get bc) get well, leave the site and get on with their lives. I’ve stuck around as I’ve formed friendships and have a high rate of cancers in my family, not related to each other however.

  • H Nicky 2911 welcome to the forum and I am so very sorry to hear how worried that you ae and little wonder as others have said the waiting is the pits and nothing to do but keep yourself busy whilst you wait..

It sounds like they have seen something on the Mammogram but they are not always the clearest so often if there is something they are unsure of they always do an ultrasound which gives them a more detailed image, to see exactly what it is they are looking at, if that makes sense?. They may also take biopsies if they are unsure what it is they are seeing, so please don't be alarmed by that, but also just to prepare you in case they decide to go that route. It could be anything at this point,  and you are absolutely going to the right place to have further tests performed.  I know it doesn't maybe feel like its good, but they are the experts and know exactly  what they are doing, so you are in safe hands.

I would be tempted to give them a  call  on Monday and see if you can move things along a bit for you save some waiting maybe.

There is something to be said for these one stop clinics, but they seem to be a bit sporadic sadly which would help us all immensely if it was all done in one day.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on and we will be thinking of you and if you wanted to talk to someone in person by phone then please don't hesitate to give the Macmillan Helpline a call, they are great. 08088080000 open between 8am-8pm every day.

  • Aww thanks Gail.

I’m not really worried of what the result are as I know id anything bad it can be treated 99% of the time.

But its just the nit knowing either way

When i ring they just say not to worry its just procedure everyone gets called back and most people have ultrasound but that doesn’t help

just wish they would say if i have to have any other tests so i know.

And they cant even give me an idea of when my appt will be could be another month but i like to think thats good news x

  • Hi,

Waiting isn't easy, I was fortunate when I went to doctors regarding pain and lump which wasn't there all the time mainly in the evening that she referred me to breast clinic as she was able to feel a lump, the following day I got an appointment date within 2 weeks I had mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy done all on same day and got results 10 days later even though they pretty much told me when they done ultrasound etc that in their opinion it was cancer which was then confirmed once biopsy was done.

I assume different places may do things a bit differently.

Hope u find out results soon x

  • Hello, as everyone says waiting and not knowing is the worst. However sometimes it's a postcode lottery for how fast the first stage can be. My routine mammogram was beginning of May, I received a letter on 18th May calling me for my first appointment on 26th May. Basically ultrasounds more mammograms, aspirations and 2 separate appointments for biopsies and clinic discussions in-between meant that I finally got my results on 4th July nearly 6.5 weeks from when I received my letter. I had a lumpectomy 3rd August. However long it all takes and whatever the results all I can say is the Breast care units are the best. You are in safe hands. It's easy to say don't worry but we have all been there and you need to deal with this how it suits you best. My mindset was to only tell a very few people close to me so that I could carry on life outside of the not knowing bubble that worked for me. Wishing you all the best. And please call them on Monday to see if they can get you in any sooner they will not mind you calling. Take care x

If urgent they will be in touch soonest. Easy to say don’t worry but those of us with BC have certainly learnt the merits of waiting ‘impatiently’! Breast nurse would be in no position to help you w/o mammogram first. I hope it’s absolutely nothing at all! Very best wishes x
