Hello Ladies, and Gents.
I got my recall letter yesterday. I had a routine mammogram a couple of weeks ago. I'm 50 next month. Did have a mammogram a couple of years ago which turned out to be nothing.
Totally shocked about the recall. Played on my mind so I called the nurse. I am afraid I am the sort of person who likes things sorted, thinks too much and I realise I am not good at this sort of thing.
The nurse told me that I had asymmetry on the left breast and denser tissue (same breast ) in the central area. I went of course to examine myself and could tell what she referred to. I hadn't noticed it before. The left breast felt fuller slightly and firmer. The breast tissue had changed since my last scan a couple of years ago. I did ask her for information on this point.
She also said the sensible things like this could be changes associated with peri-menopause etc / aging breasts. This did help and I did feel better for asking weirdly. More informed which ticks my box of liking to know.
This is so stupid because I only received the letter yesterday and I have to wait a couple of weeks until my next scan / tests.
What isn't helping is that I have a weird heaviness in my chest which I've had for about four months now which I've put down to GERD / indigestion. I've just started dieting and exercise to try and loose a bit of weigh. I'm not too bad but 'average' I guess. I couldn't see that this was a breast cancer symptom however. I didn't tell the nurse this. Felt too stupid. I assume(d) that is is associated with being a little overweight. This is really stupid considering there are people here who are really not having a good time for very significant reasons.
Why can't I tell my monkey brain to stop this silly chatter?! Its like a perverted fantasy - basically worry, which isn't helping.
Until you have your recall and results your brain will attribute every little ache, blemish, sensation to possible cancer. If you click on my name you'll see I was recalled age 51 from my first routine screening. I'm still knocking around 8 years later annoying my hubby. Did nurse tell you what yo-yo expect at recall appointment? When I had my recall they refused to tell me anything just said they'd talk to me at appointment so I had 3 weeks completely unaware onky looking at 1 breast. Hen recalled year 6 and again refused to tell me why!
Please don’t panic, though of course you will, as Grogg says, every little ache will have you attributing it to the worst possible outcome.
I recently had my 5 year mammogram and got told that if my boob hadn’t been squashed enough for the doc comparing the results with the previous year, I might be recalled too.
Try and occupy your mind with plenty of other activities in the meantime
hugs xxx

I wish I knew but have to wait 1 week. That's like a torture
