Hi. I had a lumpectomy just over 18months ago after being diagnosed with BC. I had quite painful cording which ran from under my breast and down to the bottom of my ribs. It went away but over the last few weeks I have noticed it's started to become really painful in the same place and it's a little inflamed. It's not visible like the cording but It's definitely swollen and feels different to the other side.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar as I am obviously now just thinking the worst.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi, sorry to hear this,  it really is the gift that keep giving. I have some swelling, which is uncomfortable to touch, and it's lymphoedema. If you think your swelling is inflamed, this could be a sign of an infection, so if it were me, I’d be popping to my GP to get it checked, or giving the BCN a call for some advice.  I think it's always better to ask and be reassured than sit home worrying. Best wishes

Important you get it checked with GP who can then refer you to lymph clinic and they will teach you how to push fluid to centre of chest (and treat infection). Best wishes x

  • Hi  , I have mild lympheodema in my treated breast which was diagnosed after a referral to the lympheodema service. It was picked up at my 10 week post rads oncology appointment when I asked why it was bigger than the other one after being scooped out and radiated! It was also a bit warm and still pinkish post rads so they gave me a course of antibiotics in case of underlying infection. Then at my lymphoedema appointment the nurse gave me advice re massage, bras and exercise to help which resulted in me taking up Nordic walking. I’m still doing it 4 years later! Love it, walking generally has been my sanity saver.
Definitely get it checked out, it sounds similar to mine, but you need a medical opinion of course. GP first in case you need antibiotics but if you’re on open referral to breast clinic as I am for 5 years post diagnosis, I’d also contact them to get checked.
Wishing you well, if it does turn out to be lymphoedema then I’ll just say that mine has been very manageable so far. Love and hugs, HFxx
