V shaped cushion

I was advised when I had diagnosis of BC with upcoming surgery needed to get myself a v cushion. I am so glad I did as it really helped to sleep on my back as I’m a side sleeper and with my lymph node biopsy helped me to keep my arms away from my wounds to avoid skin on skin contact which I found uncomfortable. So I thought I’d share this tip as it might help with comfort and sleep dealing with BC treatments. Please look for extra filled as some can be a bit floppy and less supportive. Mine cost me £14 on Amazon so you don’t need to spend a lot. Choose one with a pillow case and turn pillow case inside out grip the ends and pull it on like a sausage skin. Otherwise you’ll have a battle on your hands lol.

  • Yes, wish I’d known this before my op! I used lots of pillows but a V shaped one would have been a lot easier. Like you I had to sleep on my back and am normally a side sleeper so it took a lot of getting used to but could not lie on side again for ages. Top tip! Xx

  • Mum has just got me one yesterday! I have mastectomy next week SobSobSob

    So glad You recommend this.

  • Jax007 it’s worrying I know when your waiting such a big op. I have mine booked for the 31st July. I was really nervous and scared but had my lymph node biopsy Monday and in recovery  but can honestly say it wasn’t nearly as scary as I imagined it to be. As soon as I was taken to my bed I had a wobbly and sobbed. I was so scared of what lay ahead. The prep and op I can honestly say was a breeze. I woke refreshed and felt like I had the best sleep for ages. I wasn’t in any pain due to the anaesthetic with pain  relief from the op and it’s taken my fear and anxiety away in regards to my double mastectomy procedure now thankfully.  I’m not sure how it will be following this but this week hasn’t been as bad as I’d thought . Hope this helps! Big hugs and hope it’s as pain free as mine is right now xx

  • Oh thank you so much for your reply!

It gives me a little reassurance and just want it all to be over with.

I’m glad your experience wasn’t too bad.

  • I agree a V shape cushion is a must but also a heart shape cushion for under arm. I was given one from the hospital it was made by Mac. Volunteers .

was marvellous in the car (as a passenger ) to protect from seatbelt .. I used to sit on chair with V behind me and heart shape tucked under arm . Joy
