Hi, I’m newly diagnosed with ER and PGR invasive ductal Casanova in both breasts. HER negative. It’s genetic it seems and the cancer is likely to return over time. I have a strong family history of BC. I’ve accepted the fact I am to have a double mastectomy but yesterday it was mentioned I might need a hysterectomy. I’m blown away and feel it’s all too much right now. All this has happened in less than 2 weeks and it’s just so much happening in such a short space of time I’m struggling to process it all. I’m so scared
Hi DDG
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer in both breasts. I'm not surprised that you are scared , having to have a double mastectomy as well as a possible hysterectomy is a lot to take in. Breast cancer is very treatable these days and there's improvements in treatment all the time. If you feel up to it why not give the Macmillan helpline a call on 0808 808 00 00 to talk to someone about how you are feeling. They can even arrange counselling for you if you wish.
Wishing you the best of luck with your double mastectomy and with whatever other treatment your medical team puts you on.
Best wishes

HI DDG - I have recently been confirmed as having the BRCA gene after my BC diagnosis - IDC ER/PR + and HER Neg. Although I am currently going through Chemo after a lumpectomy I knew I will need another op as didn't have clear margins. The genetics doctor and I discussed this and agree a double mastectomy is the way forward. We also discussed having my ovaries removed, but agreed this would be tackled at a later date once over BC treatment. It can all be very overwhelming, but do make sure you have discussions and take time to think about decisions. The BC journey is a whirlwind! I suggest the gene test if you have no already had it and talk with your BC doctor/nurses. You are not alone in this journey - Hugs
