Armpit Lump/ breast rash

Hi there,

Sorry if this seems silly but I'm struggling with no answers. So around 7 weeks ago I found a rash on my right breast thought nothing of it and then found a lump/swelling under my right armpit, I already had a mammogram back in 2019 due to finding a lump that turned to be fatty tissue. However after 2 weeks and nothing changing I went to my gp, who referred me to genetic testing due to my family history with breast CA on my maternal side. My aunty was the first to be referred to genetics and has actively had breast CA(waiting for results from radiotherapy) and I have to wait for her to be to tested before I can be.

So after another 3 weeks I went back to the GP and explained, I felt so embarrassed, he asked me what I think he should do, so I told him, I want a referral and want peace of mind! Anyway he referred me to a breast clinic and that was almost 2 weeks ago now, I'm so so worried, does anyone know how long it usually takes? I can't remember waiting this long back in 2019.

Thank you for reading and I'm so if I come across as impatient.

  • Hello, don’t ever thing anything sounds silly. You are doing the right thing and getting checked out. Don’t know where in the UK you are based but when I was referred for an urgent mammogram it took about 3 weeks to come through - I’m in Surrey. Hoping you hear soon.

  • Thank you so much for your reply! Hopefully it'll be in the next week! I just want an answer and I'm sure everyone's the same at this stage.x

  • Ring them. The same thing happened to me and they gave me an appointment almost straight away after I rang them. Good luck.

  • Hi

Definitely ring them. I had a 2 week urgent referral and rang them and asked if there were any cancellations please could I be considered - they found me an appointment the following day. I had to wait 2 weeks for the biopsy results though - which was hell. Good luck

  • Lovely doctor - not.  Well done for getting a referral.  You can ring breast clinic to see where you are on list.  Xx

  • Hi  , you don’t come over as impatient at all, just rightly concerned to find out some answers! I agree with others who suggest phoning the clinic, at least then you’ll know you’re on the list and may even get a cancellation. Your GP sounds a bit dismissive tbh. It’s great that he’s done the genetics referral in the long term but given how long that all takes, he should have referred you to the breast clinic straight away as well anyway! Hope you get an appointment very soon so that you know what you’re dealing with. Most lumps and bumps turn out to be benign but all should be checked out. Love and hugs, HFxx
