Lymphoedema in the summer

I have mild Lymphoedema in the left arm which I mostly ignore. However, in this recent hot weather I've had to start wearing my compression sleeve and glove. Rather worried it is swelling too much!!!! I've been a bit neglectful. Plus, it's even hotter now in the sleeve. Ugh. Do others find their Lymphoedema gets worse when it's hot. Should I be concerned or just wear the sleeves more frequently?

  • Hi, yes, I have found it has been worse. I have it in the chest wall and axillary area. I had a mastectomy and axillary clearance. It can be quite troublesome. A few days ago I also suddenly experienced  intense itching on the chest wall. I was quite worried, but when I felt the area it was sandpaper dry. I had radiotherapy of the chest wall also, so wondered it the heat had caused a flare up. The next day, still itching (but not scratching), I took a 24 hr antihistamine. Within 90 minutes, the itching had stopped and some of the swelling subsided. But the swelling has flared up a bit again as the heat / humidity increased pre- a thunderstorm. I’ve gone back to my lymphodoema exercises. Hope that helps a bit. Xx

  • Thanks  , yes that helps. It's such a trial isn't it. Guess I'll have to wear the sleeve for a while whilst it's hot. I too experience itching... Especially on the arms. I take antihistamines as and when rHugginguired. Take care. Hugging
