Morning folks.  I've been taking Tamoxifen since December.  A couple of months ago I had horrendous side effects - hot flushes, horrendous mood swings etc.  Things seemed to calm down the following month.  This week, they are back.  However, I have noticed its a different batch of tablets - still Tamoxifen obviously,  but different box etc.  I'm pretty sure now that this isn't a coincidence.  Can I ask if anyone else experiences this?  Is this a thing?  Can I also ask my pharmacist to only give me the boxes I'm ok on?

I genuinely don't think this is coincidence but would welcome any thoughts and opinions if possible please

  • I've heard on a cancer forum at work that different tamoxifen brands can have different effects. Definitely speak to your pharmacist or oncologist

  • I get a different brand every month spoke to chemist and they are struggling to get meds and i am reluctant to change for a different drug as side effects vary.kind regards

  • I wasn't suggesting change drugs just brand of still tamoxifen but different make.

  • Yes this is a big topic of conversation. Search for the thread 'Oestrogen reducing medications'. Dont have a link to hand im afraid. My prescription states the brand but its in short supply and even though I gave the chemist details of the supplier to get some they cite its not cost effective. I've had to resort to 14 days of another brand but I'm a bit afraid of the side effects so have not yet taken any. I've been on tamoxifen nearly 2 yrs but my joints are swollen and ache all the time and the heat has not helped. It is good to monitor your side effects and see which brand suits you.

  • I changed to Tamoxifen from Letrozole nrly 2 mths ago. My joints were worse on Letrozole. Both are associated with some side effects. I have osteoporosis and am at treatment level for cholesterol. I have to be happy with this decision. We all know our bodies. I want o enjoy the life I have. Onwards and upwards. At least it gives us a fighting chance.

My husband changed pharmacies because if problems getting what he wanted. Still had to accept a different brand if his meds.
