I normally read anything in the Daily Mail with a pinch of salt but this article today about the benefits of yoga for cancer sufferers makes absolute sense.  I do a little yoga daily but will try and up the ante now.  www.dailymail.co.uk/.../Cancer-patients-prescribed-YOGA-stop-disease-spreading.html

  • Interesting, thanks for posting

  • You are right. It’s anything to lower stress levels is helpful. I read that stress increases homocysteine levels and that fuels cancer.

it’s one of the things like exercise and good diet that we can do to improve our outcomes.

  • That’s interesting.
I am getting out for a brisk walk for half an hour to 50 mins each day so far during chemo as I have read about the benefits. There really must be something in the whole exercise thing! thanks for sharing. X

  • Thank you for this. Only a few days ago I was reading a research article (sorry can’t remember which) that published its results of a study on mice with tumours, and the effect that stress, and the resulting inflammation within the cells had on them, compared to mice with tumours and much reduced levels of inflammation. It was quite stark. The benefits of exercise is now well publicised, but now we have something else. Yoga is not something I’ve ever tried, but maybe I can try something that has the same result. Like gentle stretching to soothing music. Or pottering around the garden listening to birds. Looking forward to reading more articles on this.

  • That's really interesting. I'm at the start of my journey and I do try to get out and walk daily, but maybe some gentle yoga at home may be good as well.

    Thanks for sharing.

I read this too but stimulating exercise is also good like regular walking...interesting..x

  • Thankyou for posting this - absolutely 100% agree yoga can be a game changer. I am a yoga teacher and 75% through my chemo. I have remained well and strong through my treatment and I contribute much of that towards my yoga practise.

I have a journey ahead still due to a faulty gene mutation sadly but yoga will see me through in body and mind. The ‘settling’ of the agitated nervous system that a cancer diagnosis creates is one of yoga’s greatest benefits.

A gentle Hatha yoga class is the ideal way to start.

    Namaste everyone Pray

  • Thanks for sharing the article! I carried on with yoga during my treatment in 2021, and still do two sessions each week. I signed up for the SafeFit trial and was paired with a wonderful yoga teacher who remotely coached me throughout chemo, surgery and radiotherapy.

I also did Vicky Fox’s Yoga for Cancer class weekly on a Sunday morning and now do them periodically when time permits. She also does in person classes in London (for anyone in that area)

  • Hello Jan

How do I find a yoga teacher online ? Do you have any suggestions? I am getting 2 weekly chemotherapy and have a further 6 sessions to go.

  • Good morning,

That’s great that you are inspired for yoga whilst on your treatment - I’m sure it will help guide you through.

As NBI mentions above, Vicky Fox teaches yoga specifically for people who have cancer - she does classes online and also has some pre recorded sessions on her website for which you pay a donation. The link to access her is in the above thread.

When I am through this (last chemo this Friday - then surgery to come) I think I will do her yoga for cancer training as would love to share this amazing grounding tool with others who are experiencing all that cancer brings.
