Its been a year now since my left side mastectomy. I don't normally bother with a bra (as i was never blessed with big boobs anyway) so have been wearing vest tops, but I have my sisters wedding coming up and want to wear a nice dress, meaning a more balanced appearance. I brought some lovely bras, but my skin is unbearably itchy when I wear them. I don't know if it's because I've not worn one for some time, or my skin is still sensitive after radiotherapy (which ended just before Christmas). Does anyone have any tips on anything they found useful? I don't want to be sat in the church trying desperately not to scratch
I had wore an amoena bras after my double mastectomy with breast reconstruction. They come in lots of different styles and there website is helpful. Guy's hospital has a fitting room and I tried their bras on there. I have also now graduated to normal bras and had a bras fitting at my local John Lewis. Again super helpful. I use E45 over my breasts and have never suffered from itching. Worth a discussion with a BCN
I hope that helps.
It is nearly 5 years for me….and I really struggled with the naff mastectomy bras on offer. My daughter took me to M&S to try a load of ‘normal’ t shirt bras…..and I haven’t looked back! My prosthesis hasn’t fallen out….and I sort of feel normal! If I was you I would go into a couple of retailers….and have a go! I did buy a number of in bra sleeves to insert prosthetic…you stitch them in apparently….but so far so good!
I was also not big busted but got some lovely comfortable wireless bras from Tescos I am sure they were around £18 for 3. I had also got some from M&S priced £22 each but don’t find them as comfortable I hope this helps you x
