I had a left breast lumpectomy just over 5 weeks ago. They said they got it all and at my after appointment they said that all 8 nodes were clear. I am waiting to see oncology once the oncotype test results are back. But will need hormone therapy and radiation therapy.
Earlier today I had a pain in the side of my left breast (surgery was right by the top of the nipple). What worries me is that it felt like the pains I got before I had surgery. I’m not sure whether to just ignore it for now or ask my nurse.

  • For your own peace of mind, just give your breast nurse a ring.

    wishing you all the best

  • I'd ask the nurse. I've had the same as you but my lump was up further than my nipple. They said because of where it was anf how they dealt with it that there maybe some pain for quite some time x

Bear in mind surgery is BRUTAL! (Having watched a lady have a hip replacement (on tv!) the surgeon was sweating having to tug at her hip area!) Whilst that didn’t happen to us, it’s still a trauma site and can take months to heal. I had mastectomy/lymph removal in Feb 2022 and am still uncomfortable and occasionally in pain. I wish you well. Xx

  • Hi, how have you been doing with your pain now? I'd say never any harm in asking if it concerns you. If nothing else it'll help put your mind at ease a little. If it helps I'm almost 9wks post op and I still get a little pain now and then. I put it down to a combo of the lump being removed and the tissue being moved around to fill the gap. Parts of my boob have a lot less sensation where the op was & the tissue moved and this tends to be where I get the pain more. One of my kids was born with a cleft and when he had his lip repair his surgeon told us it can take upto a year for the nerves and the "parts on the inside" to settle down and be back to normal - I'm applying that logic to my boob as a reason for the pains I get x

  • Thanks for replying. I have my appointment for the Oncotype test results on Tuesday so I may mention it then. I’m pretty sure it’s just the tissue and nerves settling.
