I am waiting for my mastectomy and DIEP reconstruction and have just noticed on my online NHS app that I have been given an appointment for the Anaesthetics Department on 26/4 but have not received a letter yet. Does this mean that my surgery is not too far away? I had my CT scan last week. Does this come before pre-op and at what point are you given your surgery date? This is my first ever time in hospital so it is all very new to me. Any thoughts/advice gratefully received! Thanks everyone.
Sorry, I can't help specifically. I only remember meeting the anaesthetist on the day of my surgery. Procedures probably vary between hospitals. But, in my experience, if this is the NHS - their communication is appalling. You are often given appts.without being told what they are in the letters etc. So, I would always ring up the Breast Care dept or your Breast Care Nurse and ask. You should get the information over the phone which just helps to reassure you. Don't try to second guess. They should be able to tell you what order things go in, and maybe even a surgery date. Good Luck.
