Finished chemo for triple negative breast cancer 3 weeks ago, have been trying to build energy for op on 14th April but having no luck, doing the slightest thing and I am so tired, can anyone suggest any vitamins that I could take to help.

  • Hi, I'm a breast cancer patient and new to the Forum. Congratulations on finishing chemo. I have massive fatigue myself.

I believe some vitamins can be helpful but please check with your oncologist first. I had to stop a multivitamin and B complex tablets because my B12 levels were too high.

I found that taking naps during the day has helped me feel better afterwards (if naps are possible for you). Also making sure to eat regularly if you can, including protein. Sugar gives a quick buzz of energy then fatigue, so not good!

    Take care and good luck.

  • Hi, fatigue is (sadly) rather too normal after treatment, your body has been through one heck of a lot, after all.

be kind to yourself and obey what your body is telling you, rest when you need to, gentle exercise as and when you can. Start in a small way and gradually build up, but remember that can take months as you’ve already had months of treatment!  Eat healthily which will help, too.

    Sending hugs xxx

  • Thank you for your kind and helpful reply Grin In my case, I'm also severely physically disabled and housebound plus I have a rare form of diabetes (Reactive Hypoglycaemia) that requires a very restrictive diet (no sugar and minimal carbs). Carbs give energy so I miss out on that!

Naps and, if I'm being honest, 3 cups of coffee before 3:00pm give me the little energy I have! My fatigue did increase after cancer treatment and with my anti-cancer drug Anastrazole which I take everyday.

I hope you are doing well under the circumstances. Take care Sparkling heart
