I had DIEP surgery 5 weeks ago. I have healed quite well, and most of the pain and discomfort has gone.
5 or 6 days ago my shoulder, at the front, on the surgery side started to hurt, out of the blue. Between my collar bone and the new breast feels very firm and raised, forming a bump about 1-2 inches in diameter.
As you can imagine, as with all cancer sufferers, and bump sets your mind swirling. I have often queried things with my team and don't want to seem like a hypercondriac. Rationally, this is just due to the surgery and my body is just healing. I also know that it's probably too quickly for anything sinister to have developed.
I have a telephone appointment with breast physio on Monday, so will tell them and see what they say. But can anyone put my mind at rest before then.
Hi Snookie, I also had a diep recon and a bump formed to the side - I was freaking out too - sadly I think this is something we will all experience whenever anything unusual crops up :(
I got it checked & thankfully it was just part of the healing process - it disappeared after a few weeks. In my case it was caused by the removal of the drains
Good luck with the rest of your treatment
Hi Meanegg
Thanks for the speedy reply. I really appreciate it. I'm sure it's just the healing process too. X
BTW, I didn't have any drains for this surgery.
Snookie x
