Hi, I’m on my 3rd dose of chemo and struggling with loose bowels and feeling sick, I take loperamide and anti sickness tablets, I’m also struggling with eating and drinking enough, anyone else struggling

  • Hi There.

I am sorry to hear you're having these effects. I did have a little diarrhea when I was in chemo but it was manageable. I had to force myself to drink water and for 2/3 days of every cycle I could only eat small quantities of very bland food - toast, bagels and crackers. I would definitely recommend talking to your team about your side effects if you haven't done so already. Hopefully someone else will reply with a better answer for you. Sending love your way.

  • Really sorry to hear it. Hold on!

  • Hiya Mean dm

It's not great. Sending you loads of sympathy.

I've been bouncing between soft and hard stools through the last 2 cycles, and piles also now seem to be an issue.

However, doc has given me lactulose to use daily. Soft stools are def better.  My go-to's are clarytin for the filgrastim side effects, para and ibup for pain. Domperidone or metaclopramide for the nausea (travel sickness tabs!).

Loose stools, I keep my diet really plain. Banana sarnies (with sugar), rice, fish fingers, are my 3 staples.  They seem to work for me, and clear it in about a day.

I'm drinking insane levels of water too. 2.5 litres a day min.  I think that really helps. Didn't in my 1st few cycles and had it tough, as a result I'm sure.

Seriously tho, if you are struggling that much, phone your team and they'll give you better meds and good advice.

    Big hug.

Fending off nausea as I type, after 1st EC , but have also had 4 cycles of nab paclitaxel, before mastectomy.

  • Thankyou, this has helped loads, thankyou xx
