Hi has anyone had to return for further surgery because of involved margin? I’m so concerned

I was diagnosed in August, have had 6 rounds of chemo, my surgeon told me the MRI scan showed the tumour had shrunk to scar tissue, after removal it showed cancer cells still present in the tissue and not a clear margin. I am not concerned re the surgery it’s just the waiting for results again! how many times can this be done

  • Hi Sallydally,

I had two surgeries because the cancer cells had spread to the margin. The second surgery cleared it. I was told that the procedure was lumpectomy but it would depend on what they would find so mastectomy was also planned if needed. Fortunately I didn’t have to have a mastectomy. Now I am on the second cycle of chemotherapy which is next week.

I can understand the feeling of the unknown can drive one uncomfortable to say the least. I hope you don’t have to wait too long and wish that you hear some good news soon.

  • Thank you so much for your reply, I seemed to get through the chemotherapy well (I hope you do too) and kept so positive but this has really knocked me back.

Sending virtual hugs to you. I know how it feels. Talking about my circumstance to trusted friends really helps as it makes things “normal “ to me. And you are doing the right step in posting here as this forum is very supportive.Another thing that helped me is to find information about my case so I am more informed and have better understanding of what exactly the specialists say. I felt that they talk about specifics yet I need to know the background of why.
Let us remember that while we are waiting, the background work is being done and we one of the many growing numbers of patients. Also every passing day leads to the day you get your news.
    Stay strong.

    xx

  • Thank you hugs back to you too xxxxx
