Biotin as a supplement after breast cancer

Hi all,

I had my breast surgery last June (lumpectomy) no radiotherapy or chemotherapy needed. Was told was a good idea to take hormone treatment so was put on Letrozole. Sick to death of all the side effects, brain fog, dreadful fatigue, insomnia, hair loss, knee pain that means I now lurch around like a sailor fresh off a six month voyage. Considering coming off them for a few weeks, have discussed with my breast care nurse. Very sad about the hair loss and general loss of condition, hair now thinner and strawlike in texture, have found out Biotin is the go to supplement for hair health and wanted to try some.

Anyone else on here tried Biotin, or anyone know how it might affect estrogen levels if at all? I've read it can affect blood tests for thyroid, and cholesterol, giving false results, and lower blood glucose levels.

Anyone else use it?

Thanks, best of luck to all.

  • I asked my oncologist if I could take Biotin after I finished chemo and he said it would be fine. I'm also on Letrozole but haven't had any hair loss Neutral face x

  • Hey Lisa,

Thanks for the reply, that's encouraging. Will do some more research but that's interesting that your oncologist  thought it was fine. Trying to look for other professionals opinions, but can't find much. None of them want to be seen to promote anything from the alternative health market because of the clinical evidence angle.

But I'd like to try it.

    Many thanks Grin x
