Hi just wondering if anybody else has had problems with there prosthesis wore my foam one to start with then I was given a silicone one wore it for a few months and it made my mastectomy area and under my arm puffy tender to the touch so I stopped wearing it thinking maybe to soon I had my mastectomy in February so haven't worn it for about a month and a half wore my swimming one it flattened down and not as tender so tried it again about a week ago same thing puffy and tender I also feel it quite heavy anybody else have problems ?
My mum had same problem. Look up knitted knockers charity. They knit prosthesis in soft cotton and they look really quite natural and not heavy. They do a swimming one too. They are free. Just order your size.
I was told when I hit my silicone one that if you lose/gain weight you can get a replacement so maybe give them a call?
Can you go back to the prosthesis clinic and ask them for help? I was told to come back if I had any problems. Mine doesn’t usually hurt but it’s quite heavy and I changed my straps to crossover which gave a much better lift/shake but irritated the scar as you described so I had to switch back. It could be the bra rather than the prosthesis but you’d need help to know/sort that …
Hi….I have had similar problem, I had mastectomy 5 months ago….with extensive scarring as this was my second time around on this side…..I tried a Been-a-boob…..but found the bean bag style too dense for my tender chest wall……I hear about the knitted knockers and I was reading about them on their website…..they do a swimming variety….which is stuffed with a shower scrunchie……so I thought…maybe I could do that…..I now use a scrunchie….I took it apart and stuffed in into the pocket of my post mastectomy bra…..adjusting the quantity and volume…..I also add a silicone bust shaper ( from Nicola Jane…£38 for a pair) to give a smooth outline. I also use the scrunchie in a crop top style bra with removal pads. I find this much lighter and softer with a lot less pressure on my chest wall….it looks good….I think. It is cheap enough to experiment with.
I often don’t bother and go around flat on that side….blouses with pockets help to give an illusion of having 2 breasts.
Hope this helps
If you loose weight you should be entitled to a new prosthesis if you got your from the NHS - I was told this at my fitting. Worth asking?
Thanks I have just ordered one.I find the silicone one heavy etc.I am fortunate that I done have a large breast.I tend to wear a crop top and insert the 2 padded inserts into the side that I had the mastectomy
