Hi everyone,
I am about to undergo radiotherapy for DCIS. I just wondered how tired people felt after the treatment, there seems to be a lot of variety in peoples experiences and I need to tell work how long I may be off work. I am having 5 days radiotherapy.
Thanks in advance,
Claire
Hi Ozomatli welcome to the forum. Its a difficult thing to be very precise about and as you have already recognised there are a variety of different experiences, so no one can predict how you will react. Even though it is over 5 days my understanding is that it is a higher/more condensed dose of treatment into the 5 days rather than over a longer period of time as an example. I Was ok throughout my sessions, I had 20 in total but got very very tired about day 10 and it just got worse from then for me , but I also know people who have had radiotherapy and have not been tired at all, or if they have, it has been short lived.
Sorry not to be able to be more specific for you but it will be unique to you so may have to be a speculative guestimate for work . xx
Thanks for that info Gail, It sounds like I’ll just need to go with the flow and see how I feel. It’s a bit frustrating not having a clue how I’ll feel!
I hope you are recovering well now,
claire
Hi Ozomatli. I am on Day three of a five day course and finish on Friday. I haven’t found it too tiring. First day was the worse because I felt nervous and stressed. The hardest part for me is having my arms above my head in stirrups. I find it uncomfortable after a while. You don’t actually feel anything but I have been told that tiredness can set in a few weeks in. I think everyone reacts differently.

Hi Evajean,
Thanks for that. My nurse advised me to practice the arm exercises when I had my operation but I didn’t have much pain so I haven’t been doing them. I will start tomorrow!
I hope you don’t suffer too much with tiredness. At least we know it won’t be forever….

Hi, I would encourage you to do the exercises. They really help with the strange positions you need your arms in. I finished 20 sessions of radiotherapy just over two weeks ago and my shoulder got stiffer after the treatment, so I'm keeping up with them now. Good luck with the treatment.
Thanks. Glad you felt fine, Fingers crossed I’m the same! X
Did you not have burnt chest after 20, Hilfe22? I had 15 and didn’t feel it till a couple of days after. I was given 2 packs of Medihoney but when I ran out decided to buy my own. They were £19 each just for 50ml!! I did buy myself 2 more but the RT department did supply me more when I asked tho.
Hi, There is quite a bit of redness, especially around my scar, but no burns. I hope the Medihoney is helping and that you are starting to feel better.
