Hi  I am due to have a unilateral mastectomy with the two stage expander implant. I have been offered the CPX saline or Becker implant. I have tried to research them and it is very confusing. Anybody have any experience of either type of implant please?  I understand the Becker can potentially stay in but have also read that retention rate is not as good as having a saline implant followed by a silicone. Very confused - appreciate any experiences please xx

  • Hi, I am sorry you're post hasn't had any responses yet. I haven't got the experience to help you myself, but my response will bump your post back to the top and hopefully someone will be along to respond soon. Best wishes

  • Hi

Almost 8 weeks ago I had a double mastectomy and insertion of expanders. The reasoning behind this is I’m diabetic and used to smoke so my consultant was concerned about wound healing. Mine were inserted fully inflated so that in the case of infection they could be deflated to relieve wound pressure. Fortunately I have healed really well. I’m not entirely sure but I think my implants are the CPX as they are definitely not permanent and I have to have a further surgery to place my permanent ones in January. I have had no issues with these implants, they are slightly hard, the surgeon has said the permanent ones will be softer. I am numb over both breasts. I have the odd pain but it’s few and far between. My friends are all very impressed with my “new boobs” that are much smaller and higher than my previous ones. They are a good shape. I’m not sure if any of that helps but I just wanted to give you some information. It’s better than nothing I suppose.

  • Thank you so much it does help. My op is on tbe 21st and I am having the same as you.  Hope the recovery continues to go well x

  • I found my card with the brand of chest expanders that were used for me on it. They are motiva and they have a website. You should check it out and see if that give you some more info

  • I had a double mastectomy 5 weeks ago and was due to have the Becker expanders but my consultant said that there is a shortage at the moment and he couldn’t get hold of them. I can’t remember what I ended up with in the end but they’ll need to be exchanged for silicon implants in around 6 months. I’m just about to start radiotherapy so I have no idea what might happen but I’m keeping everything crossed. Good luck with your surgery, I hope it all goes well x
