Hi all.

Anyone else on tamoxifen, I started taking it at night as I feel sick when taking tamoxifen during the day, however I'm wide awake till 4am after taking it at night. Just wondering if anyone else is like this.

Thanks

  • Hi unlucky39

I take tamoxifen in the morning and like you it has really affected my sleep,  I now get about 3 or 4hrs broken sleep a night, would love a full night's sleep

  • I have been on tamoxifen for a few weeks,  I also take mine at night and like you don't sleep well at all, I either wake numerous times or can't get to sleep at all. I'm hoping it will improve.

  • Hi unlucky39,

I take Tamoxifen and also take it at night. It does effect my sleep as I’ve always been a really good sleeper but now I can be awake staring at the ceiling for hours some nights. I’ve been on it about 5 months and it has got better over time . The hot sweats don’t help as they wake me through the night too.

  • OMG I am about to start Tamoxifen, already struggling with sleeping so not looking forward to it. I have been using thi herbal supplements to help sleep. The Night Time  Complex by Hey Nutrition.  It has helped but lets see after I take the Tamoxifen.

  • Hello!

I'm 6 months down the tamoxifen route and - for me - it was the very worst part of my treatment for cancer (lumpectomy, radiotherapy, and then tamoxifen). I lost 2 stone in weight due to nausea and could barely sleep at all. However, it *is* finally getting better!!! :-)

I take the tablet in the morning as I found I could live with the nausea better in the day than at night, adding to the lack of sleep torture.

I'm on venlafaxine which has helped a bit and I also take a sleeping tablet once or twice a week to get a really good night's sleep. I also swim 3 to 4 times a week and get outside in the fresh air when I can.

I promise you it definitely gets easier xx

  • Oh yes but i put this down to menopause. Perhaps it is also the tamoxifen.  I take it with dinner so around 7pm ish. I tried taking it in a morning but had several episodes of nausea. Takes me ages to drop off. Wake around 3 or 4am , usually get up for bathroom as I am awake and bored! Takes me a while to drop off then am awake again 630 or 7am. Sometimes I get less sleep due to snoring partner or I just can't drop off. I've only been on it 15 months. Glad to know I'm not the only one x

  • Hi everyone

Thanks for all replies. I'm going to talk to Dr next week. Just sticking with taking it at night as to sick if take it during the day. I'm sure it will work itself out eventually, only been on tamoxifen 2 weeks.
