I am having a unilateral mastectomy with no nipple sparing. I want direct to implant rather than expander but worried cosmetic outcome not as good and also of necrosis. Any advice please xx
Hi there, had immediate reconstruction rather than an expander, my surgeon told me it would be smaller than the other side, but I was ok with that.
I have had radiotherapy & won't know until Jan 23 when have a review if the implant has been damaged & will need replacing. It was a gamble to try & avoid 2 surgeries. I will see what happens
I had my whole nipple removed & will be keen to have a tattoo as soon as I can.
Hope this helps. Best wishes x
I had a double mastectomy with insertion of expanders. The reasoning behind this was being diabetic and recently giving up smoking put me at a much higher risk of infection. The expanders were put in fully expanded and if I got an infection they could be deflated to reduce pressure in the wound. I also had both nipples removed. The breasts have a nice shape. I’m having my permanent implants put in in January. I hope this helps.
