Good morning all, my mum was diagnosed with stage 1a grade 2 HER 2 positive with no lymph  node involvement. She has undergone  her lumpectomy  and was it was successful removed with clear margins. She is currently have paclitaxel weekly for 12 week and trastuzumab  every 3rd week for a year. I've read lots of horror storied ( probably  wrong of me to read) abou5 HER 2 positive  likely to come back and spread, please can any one pit my mind at ease does the face thatbitbwas caught early despite it been HER2 positive mean its less likely to come back? Thank you all in advance  x

  • Hi   My story on profile just click name to read . I was diagnosed in 2019 had a Masectomy, chemo then Herceptin ( trastuzumab) for a year .

The Herceptin for a year is to reduce the risk of recurrence i also  was offered and took Bisphosphonate infusions to strengthen bones last one in Dec this year .
please put your mind at rest and trust your mums team to be offering the best treatment plan . We’re all different so react differently to this sort of info but my attitude is any cancer can return but do t worry about what might happen in the future ,rather than concentrating on now and making sure I enjoy my life .
I know it’s hard but try to concentrate on the fact the team have removed the cancer and concentrate on mum getting back to fitness during / after her treatment .
wishing you and your family well

feel free to ask any questions . Might be good for mum to join forum as there is lots of support and advice on here . There is also a thread on the forum  for family members to join and chat if you wanted to .

    take care

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

  • Hi Jodie; I can really understand your worries but I think the best thing you can do now is to stop reading the 'horror stories' and concentrate on the here and now.  Your mum's team will have worked out the best treatment for her; she's recovering, so celebrate that.

Best wishes to your mum - and you.

  • Ask the oncologist. Mine told me today that if you respond well to chemo more than 80% of people have no reoccurrence!
