Hi - NEED SOME ADVICE

DIAGNOSIS - ILC - TUMOUR 75mm - 3 positive nodes and 4th node had changes, cancer was ER+ HERS2 -

recently had a SMX with clear margins, DIEP and node clearance - still recovering but going as well as can be expected.

Post op was told that as the tumour was large and 3+ nodes were positive - no oncotype required - chemo is necessary, which I accepted ( after a few meltdowns off course ) and was preparing myself for it.

However I insisted for the oncotype test to be conducted - just for my own information ( paid for the test )

Results have just come back with an oncotype score of 19 and I am post menopausal - so chemo would not give me any benefit as per the guidelines.

Oncologist was very excited and happy for me - and said I no longer require chemo as lobular cancer doesn’t generally respond well to chemo and I have a low oncotype score - so just 15 radiation sessions and hormone treatment is the new plan.

I am happy yet confused - if there was a chance I could avoid chemo why were they so insistent that we don’t have an oncotype - and go straight for chemo -

is this the best plan of action ? Has anyone else experienced this kind of decision turnaround ?

  • I am so pleased you dont need chemo, can you imagine putting yourself through months of suffering when you didnt need it,the radio will be a breeze for you. I had left chest removed and lymph nodes removed and nodes were all clear so didnt need to put myself through second op so still kicking myself for that but hey its done now. Kind regards
