Radiotherapy not too bad?

Hi

I know that it’s our nature to comment on the bad things but I really would benefit from hearing from anyone whose experience of having radiotherapy wasn’t too bad. I’m due to start mine soon, well hopefully, and I’m pretty scared about it if I’m honest. It’s my left breast so I’m also worried about the effect on my heart.

Thanks

Sowa x

  • Hi iv just finished 15 sessions of radiotherapy and out of my treatment I found the radiotherapy the easiest part, the driving back and fore everyday is a bit of a drag but the sessions are quick, I had a bit of tightness at the end but I moisturised regularly and was told my skin was realy good, I think it's going into the unknown is the scary part but once you do it once you will be fine, wishing you all the best and hope it all goes well

  • Radio is a breeze compared to other treatments I had 5 days of 3minute sessions on left side and agree moisturise, moisturise is a very good idea and i too had tightness, you will also get a tiny tiny tattoo which  will be hard to see ,so that the machine can be set up just for you quickly. The sessions will be over so quick you will probably say _is that it are we done, kind regards

  • it’s natural to have a fear of the unknown but once you have had the first one you will know what to expect.

The machine looks scary but it doesn’t touch you.You don’t feel anything or see anything when you have your treatment.

Take the advice of the radiographers and moisturise regularly, drink lots of fluids, and rest when you need to. Your skin will get pink like a sun tan and you may feel tired..

Most people find it the easiest part of the cancer pathway.

    Good luck x

  • Thank you. That’s good to hear. If all goes to plan I’ll be having 15 too. It does put my mind at rest a little hearing your story. Fingers crossed mine goes as well as yours. Best of luck to you going forward x

  • Thanks for your reply. I will moisturise and drink lots of water and try to rest. Great tips from all you ladies Relaxed️. I hope you’re doing well following your treatment x

  • Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s helpful to hear another good, if you can call it that, story. All the best going forward x

  • Thank you.
I’m well thank you. I used to be a radiotherapy radiographer so I know radiotherapy from both sides of the fence so happy to help with any questions down the line x

  • Oh, thank you, that’s really comforting Relaxed️. I’m fairly new on here. If I wanted to get in touch would I come back to this post to do it?

  • Yes you can tag my name in the reply and I’ll get a email notification if you don’t mind other people reading the question x

  • Thanks so much, I really appreciate it x
