Anyone had a drug holiday on Anastrozole?

  1. Hi

I'm 9 months on from primary treatment for a small early screening detected IDC and have been taking Anastrozole for the last 9 months. For the first few months the side effects were liveable with but the joint pain and stiffness has really ramped up, particularly in my ankles which is impacting on all my physical activities.

I've tried accupuncture ( which does help with general wellbeing ) omega 4/ cod liver oil and glucosamine but, despite all that I'm still regularly having to come down stairs one at a time and am in pain. I've not chopped and changed brands so that's not a factor which I know can be for some

I'm on patient lead follow up so have been in email contact with the Breast Care Service and the nurse practitioner has suggested I take a 6 week drug holiday and then we review. I'm now ridiculously anxious about not taking that tablet tonight but do want rid of this pain.

Anyone had experience of taking a break and any other suggestions about what I can try to deal with this ? I'm considered low risk of recurrance but do want to feel that I have done everything to minimise so do want to find a middle ground of taking the recommended meds for the next 4+ years. I am ( very) menopausal at nearly 58 as went through the menopause at 46

Thank you :Grinning

  • Hi . I haven't had this experience myself but I noticed you've not had any replies yet and the site is quite busy today so your post has slipped down a few pages.  My response will pop it back up to the top and hopefully someone with the right experience will be along soon. Best wishes
