Struggling Now

Hi All

I had my mastectomy back in November last year. It was hormonal, so after me deciding to have the breast off, fortunatly I didnt have to have any Chemo or Radio theraphy.

I was given Tamoxifen at first try, but that gave me really bad sweats and leg spasms which were very painful.

So after 3 months of trying I was taken off them and given zoladax implant with Latrazol tablet. Soon after I started this treatment I started with a rah on my back, after a few weeks I went to my own doctors and she gave me some steroid cream

I had 2 lots of that and still the rash didnt go, The 3rd dr I saw thought it could be the cancer treatment I was taking. so we stopped the Latrozol straight away. Breast Care called me and told me NOT to use the creams my dr gave me.My next implant should be on the 28th September, The rash is not over my back on my arms down to the back of my legs and is so ittchy.

I have called Breast care today, I have another week of not been able to put the cream on my back and the rest of my body. When I spoke to breast care, she said maybe they will try the tamoifen again,

I am so fed up of this now and dont know what to do.

I was wondering if anyone else has had anyting like this, It almost 12 mths since I had the iperation and my body isnt taking any of the treatmen they are trying to well.  Any encouragement or ideas would be appreciated. I am waiting to have my overies out, but obvioulsy have to hace something while im waiting Thanks for reading and for the encouragement

  • Hi, sorry to hear that you are struggling with side effects of the medications, it must be so frustrating for you.  I hope your breast care team can look at other alternatives for you. Best wishes

  • Hi and Thankyou I have a telephone appointment tomorrow afternoon from the Breast care nurse practitioner, Hopefully they would have decided on the next treatment for me....

  • I'm sorry to hear you are struggling so much with your medications. I am on Letrozole - the first packet was fine, the second was a different brand and I noticed more side effects but fortunately the third packet went back to the original brand and I feel better. I really hope you find some help and respite from all the side effects.

  • Dear ,

I am sorry you find yourself here and more so sorry for all that you are going through.

I am just going to come at this from another direction - 'could something else' be causing this.....

I am wondering if it could be an allergic reactions; how I mean is, have you changed washing powder that could be causing this, or something you are eating that doesn't agree with you. .... has your doctor ruled out anything else that could be causing this.

I am 'not' medically qualified and the following sentence is something you could ask your Doctor about (due to any other medication you are taking - you would want to make sure this would be okay).....

My suggestion.... Have you tried an antihistamine tablet,I know some of the ladies on here that suffer bad aches and pains have/do take the antihistamine Loratadine sold over the counter as "Claritin" (the are a lot more cheaper brands - so long as it is 'loratadine').

It's just a thought.  I do hope between your Doctor and Breast Care team they can help you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Hi Yes I was told NOT to use the creams off the Doctor, and to stop the Latrazole, Its been almost 3 weeks now and the has gotten worse. Doctor already asked about soap pwder, I have used Fairy non bio for a long time and had no issues, my doctor also looked at the other medication Im taking as did the BCN's I should be having the zoladax implant again on Thursday but when they called me last week, it looks Like I will have to cancel that one. For me tryng the Tamoxifen again may be suggested..... Thanks for all your comments

  • Hi I was put on Latrozole along side the Zoladex implant which lasts for 3 months. I should have been having the implant for 2 years.

  • Hi I have an appointment to see the Oncologist in November( first time since my op last November), I should be starting a different Implant soon so hopefully my body will behave itself and accept this one. I took my last antihistamine table yesterday I had 14 days worth. The rash is slowly going down now, and still itches at night. Thankyou for your suggestions we did look at all the things you suggested. I have more often than not used Fairly non bio washing powder as I do have eczma anyway and have used comfort fabric conditioner. It was the 3rd doctor I saw at  my own doctors that recognosed the rash as a drug related rash. And again yes all the things you suggested were asked at my first appointment. Thankyou so so much for your suggestions. Im a bit nervous going to the cancer centre itself for the fist time but at least Im getting sorted.

  • My body just isnt liking these meds at all. I was on Tamoxifen at first and I was having sevre Leg spasms and sweats constantly

  • Really sorry to hear you are still struggling and I hope you get some respite soon.

  • I hope your visit to the oncologist will go well.
