Hysterectomy after breast cancer treatment

Hi,

I just wondered if anyone has gone through a similar thing . I’m 47 and had a mastectomy last November. Started tamoxifen in December, but In April I started bleeding heavily. Oncology changed my hormone therapy to zoladex and anastrozole. Everything seemed fine and I was doing well. I went for an ultrasound and was referred to gynaecology who did a biopsy to make sure all was ok. ( but no real concerns ) The bleeding started again, so I chased up my biopsy. I’ve since found out I have hyperplasia atypia ( which is pre cancer) and have to have a hysterectomy as the oncologist has said there may be cancer in my womb. I’m assuming there is a link as my breast cancer was oestrogen positive. Just wondered if anyone has been through a similar experience? Thank you

  • Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this.I had something similar but the other way round. I'm a lot older than you at 62 but in autumn 2020 I had post menopausal bleeding and had several tests which revealed a uterine polyp. This was biopsied and showed as stage 1 cancer so in December 2020 I had a hysterectomy. Luckily this showed the cancer had been contained in the polyp and as there was no spread I needed no further treatment.

Just a few days after receiving this news  I discovered a lump in my left breast which turned out to be Stage 3 TNC. I has a mastectomy followed by chemotherapy

In my case there was no link because between the two and I was told I was just unlucky.

I don't know if it'll help but I found the hysterectomy and recovery a lot easier than the mastectomy and recovery however that might have been because I had the mastectomy two months after the hysterectomy.
