Hi everyone. I finished chemo for HER2-positive breast cancer in January this year. I managed to escape catching Covid up to now but have finally succumbed to Omicron this week. I have been prescribed the anti viral medication to take and just wondered what other fellow sufferers experiences were in taking this medication. Thanks

  • Hello Freddie 1, I finished my chemo in December and caught covid around a month ago. I was prescribed a 5 day course of Paxlovid - is that what you are taking? Within a day my sore throat had cleared up and although the mild flu type covid symptoms persisted for a few days I tested negative at the end of the 5 day course so it seeemed to have worked well.

  • I have been prescribed the same. Pavlovid. Did you have any side effects such as diarrhoea and a funny taste in the mouth. I have no appetite and feeling very fatigued.

  • I didn't have any side effects that coincided with starting the Paxlovid. I lost my sense of taste for a few days, and coffee tasted a bit 'metallic' but I put that down to the covid as this started before I took the anti-virals and I had been feeling fatigued for months which I attributed to recovering from two surgeries, 6 months chemo, radiotherapy, and Letrozole! The symptoms you mention could all be down to the Covid, not necessarily the anti-virals, but if you are worried speak to your GP.

  • Thanks you for your reply. Covid and cancer, these things are really Sent to try us.

  • Hi Freddie 1 and LalaLou,

I wondered if your in a position now to reflect on benefits and long/short term side effects of Paxlovid

  • Well in reply to your query I caught Covid for the first time in September last year. I tried 3 days worth of Paxlovid and instead of feeling just a little better not completely I ended up in hospital for a week. My breathing got worse over those 3 days I took the medication. Doctor thinks although not proven I may have been allergic to Paxlovid. All I can say is that I would never take it again. All the best.

  • Oh Freddie 1, that sounds like hell. Thanks for the heads up
