4cms breast lump

Hello everyone, I’m fairly new here, and I’ve been told I have womb cancer, and it’s a carcoma they think, just waiting for further tests. Two weeks ago, just before my endoscopy, my left breast felt tender and painful, and after examination I found a big soft lump that I’m certain was new because I regularly check. Been to the breast clinic, the lump measured 4cms, with a couple of enlarged lymph nodes and I’m waiting for the biopsy results - the consultant suspects it’s cancerous. 4cms is big, isn’t it? Please tell me they will be able to do something about it, because I’m overwhelmed with terror about this, and the womb cancer, thanks, Julia

  • Hi Julie

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I will tell you the waiting is always the hardest.  I was diagnosed with breast cancer 4.7cm tumor and lymph node interference.  Plan was for mastectomy, all lymph node removal, Chemo and radiotherapy.  I have just started chemo yesterday.

Please message me if you want to chat or want to wait for your pathology results.

I don’t want to overload you with unnecessary information.

    take care xx

  • Hi Tracey, thanks for your reply and, you’re right, I don’t think I can handle a lot of information at the moment as I haven’t had the verdict yet - but I think it’s pretty clear it’s cancer, the consultant thinks that’s the most likely. I will contact you later when I know for certain, many thanks, Julia x

  • Your welcome.  The consultant was sure for me too, before pathology results! Thought it was a little harsh, but I guess they know their stuff!  When I look back I had that little extra time to prepare.

Hi here if you want to get in touch.

    xx

  • Hi, so sorry to read your post, it's a very difficult time just waiting and not knowing.  My lump was 55mm and I was diagnosed about 18 months ago.  You can read my story here in this blog if that helps as I am now through the other side.  Best wishes

  • Thanks for your reply, I feel like a hopeless case with my massive lump, so you made me feel more optimistic xx

  • Hi Julia, I had a lump in breast after all the tests found out it wad breast cancer stage 2. Had a scan to find out if it spread, received the results 2 weeks later and found that I had cancer in top of my lung. Going to have mastectomy, lymph glands removed and part of my lung removed on Thursday. My lump is 6cms in my breast. Once I've recovered from that got to have chemo and radium. I know exactly how you feel and I do feel for you.

Good luck and best wishes x

  • Hi Harley47, I’m sorry to hear how much you’ve been through with all this, and now chemo and radium too. If you’ve read my profile you’ll see I’ve got womb cancer that they believe is a carcoma, so I think the breast lump Is related to that as imo it’s new - I do check regularly. I’m just wondering if they will do anything for me as they have said if it’s spread to my bones I won’t get surgery just medicine.

  • That is big but it doesn’t mean they necessarily can’t operate - I was told mine was big and had a mastectomy as soon as they could schedule it and a full axillary clearance.  I was a bit in shock to find out after the surgery that it was 20cm (not even being measured in mm!). It might not be the best path for you but size isn’t necessarily going to stop you being able to have surgery.

  • Hello Julia,

sorry to hear you have found a lump in your breast.

I just wanted to let you know my recent experience. In Feb 2022 I found a lump which after biopsies and Ultrasound I was told was 5.5cm, naturally I was terrified. I was sent for full body PET scan & further tests, luckily I had no spread to lymph nodes or distant disease, even though the tumor was quite large.

My healthcare team decided to give me chemotherapy first to try and reduce the size of the tumor and hopefully avoid the need for a mastectomy. After 6 months of chemo my tumor had shrunk to just 1cm and last week I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node removal.

I have just been to see the surgeon for pathology results and they have removed the whole tumor with clear margins and the lymph node is still all clear. I am back to see oncologist tomorrow to discuss next steps, as I now just need 3 weeks radiotherapy, to blast any C cells which may still be lurking in my breast.

The last 7 months have been a rollercoaster of worry and emotions but I am so pleased that my treatment has worked. Like you when they told me the size of the tumor I was terrified.

I just need to heal emotionally now.

Best wishes for your results and treatment

    Paula xx

  • Wow LL that was big! I’ve now had the results of my biopsy - stage 3 with an aggressive cancer (didn’t ask which sort) but it’s not hormone related, it is confined to the breast, no lymph nodes, and isn’t a secondary cancer from the carcoma I have in my womb. 2 primary cancers at the same time. All being well from CT scan this Saturday, (PRAYING carcoma hasn’t got into my bones) I will have a hysterectomy, then a mastectomy asap. They both need to be done urgently, but the team say the womb must be addressed first. This means I cant have any chemo for either, as it effects healing etc, before I’ve had both ops. I’m not bothered about surgeries, or a long road to recovery via chemo and radio - I just want to believe I WILL survive it and live on - I’ve got a family that needs me (please read my profile) xx
