Hi,
I’ve completed chemo & surgery and starting radiotherapy soon. My periods stopped with chemo and haven’t come back. I had my first Zoladex injection 2 weeks ago and will be on Letrozole too (plus Abemaciclib) and am already noticing that my mood has altered - normally a pretty relaxed person, now much more prone to feeling on edge, shouting at my kids (4 of them who can be very annoying at times!) and feeling tearful. Is this standard after starting the hormone therapy and getting a rapid menopause? The doctor did say it would kick in within 2-3 weeks but thought I’d ask what others’ experience has been.
Thanks in advance for any insight and tips x
Hi - Im on Zoladex and in my second month now and gave me night sweats and just had my first daytime hot flush but haven't had mood swings - my husband thinks Ive been pretty mellow but I think that's because Im less energetic and not as bouncy as usual. I didn't have chemo though . BTW Get them to talk you about the effects of radiotherapy that happen after you complete your treatment as in weeks months and years. I didn't get this info and I thought I was back to normal once Id finished (May this year) and that was that but now Ive got fibrosis and lymph oedema so can't wear my normal bras anymore ...and breast care nurse said this is perfectly normal. Its not really bad but its pissing me off - was expecting a smaller boob not a bigger one :-)
Hi. I'm on zoladex and letrozole. Coming up to my 4th injection and haven't experienced any mood swings although am finding the flushes quite hard. I also feel generally warmer as though someone has turned my thermostat up. I had radiotherapy in March and have recently also started to get itchy on the treated area when i get too warm. I've been speaking to my breast care nurse and oncologist regularly and they have said that everyone's side effects are different and to let them know if they become too much. Think the flushes sound like a pretty common side effect. I will admit though that sometimes the reality of everything that's happened hits me and makes me a bit crabby which i am told is also normal x
I've been on zoladex for about 20 months and did have anxiety and mood swings with them. I went through a course of acupuncture which really helped me. I still get hot flushes and night sweats but I don't get the anxiety that comes with them so they are easily to manage.
A sudden, medical menopause is more intense than a natural one, but I found everything significantly calmed down after the first few months or so and then things have been getting gradually easier as time has gone on.
I think I'll always have some symptoms as long as I'm on zoladex and exemestane, but for me they have settled down since the beginning.
Hi. I too am on zolidex and just started exestamane. My mood is all over the place. This was so bad that I considered self harm. I’ve never had that before. I take anti depressants anyway and my GP has raised these. I’ve also booked in with a counsellor. For me this ‘aftermath’ following a lumpectomy, chemo and radiotherapy, is challenging. I feel like it’s impacting my relationships as I’m grissly, snappy, quick to flare up over fairly minor things.
Thanks for all your replies. It seems, like with everything involved in BC, it affects us in different ways. I’ve now started making a note of my mood on an app to see if there’s a pattern.
