After treatment....trying to feel fit and healthy again.

Hi

I've just completed 6 months of chemo and waiting on my surgery and radiotherapy. But over the last 6 months I've put on so much weight and feel so unfit and unhealthy now. I want to start planning to feeling healthy again once all my active treatment is done. I try and get out walking and trying to eat healthy but want to be able to exercise with people who understand the physical impact of chemo treatment. I notice quite a few specific cancer recovery programmes across the country but can't find any where I live. I just wondered if anyone knew of anything in the cornwall area???

Thanks

Matilda

See if there’s any local groups in your area connected with cancer..they usually have contacts, in Hampshire we certainly do..best wishes x

  • I've heard about this website and I seem to remember they did a discount on premium membership if you're having treatment for cancer:-

    Might be worth a look?

  • I felt exact same way. I have always gone to gym and although not super fit I use it for my mental and physical health. I had 6 chemo, surgery, radiotherapy & year maintenance. I went back to my gym last year during my maintenance. I always do classes as you all help each other on and everyone is at different level of fitness and no one judges you. I always told the instructor in private at start what my situation was & that I would leave class if felt unwell. Luckily this never happened. I took things at my own pace & missed a night if felt too tired. Be sensible & listen to your body. I was always encouraged to exercise by my cancer nurse who said it helps reduce any side effects.  I know my gym offers 14 day membership so you could try out & im sure others would. Hope this helps in some way,

  • You could try online classes with Penny Brohn? Or get a personal trainer with cancer experience perhaps. Does your local BCN have any advice - sometimes they know about all sorts of things, even exercise classes.
