Hi all, I’m due to have this, this Friday. Very nervous! Also while I’m grateful that at the moment it seems I have none aggressive cancer and I’m grateful to have a chance to not have a full mastectomy Im scared of how to look afterwards with being potentially very asymmetrical at least for a while. I know that sounds shallow in the scheme of things! Does anyone have any tips on what you’ve worn during recovery and shortly after… clothing/ chicken fillets?!

thanks a lot and sorry if this sounds petty xx

  • Hi Sunflower1

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  It doesn't sound in the least bit petty, you are not alone in worrying what your breasts will look like after surgery.  It's perfectly understandable that you are feeling nervous about having surgery.  While I don't have any advice for you as I had a lumpectomy I thought I'd reach out to you as you haven't had any replies yet.  Hopefully someone will be along shortly with advice for you.

Wishing you the best of luck with your surgery on Friday.

    Best wishes

  • Hi

I had therapeutic mammoplasty and full lymph node removal on 16th June.

The actual breast surgery was nowhere near as bad as I expected, lymph node removal was very sore

I had post surgery bras from Asda ,which were extremely comfortable, day and night

I then had Comfort bras, now wearing.

My breasts are a little lopsided, to me,but everyone  I see says they 'can't tell'

I'm now nearly 7 weeks post op and very pleased with how well I have healed

    Sure you ll do amazing!

    Take care

  • Hello I had a therapeutic mammoplasty in May 2021.  It’s natural to feel the way you do & it’s neither petty or shallow.  The operation itself was fine - I didn’t actually have any pain or painkillers afterwards.  Found that strange but obviously good!  It was my left breast, lower inner quadrant but when I’m wearing my bra no one can tell unless I point it out.  The actual appearance is great & whilst I could have right breast reduced I don’t see the need.  When I take my bra off the left one stays put but the other one is a lot lowerJoy.  I bought bras from John Lewis for immediately after surgery.  Then went to M&S for their post surgery range.  Fitters we’re very kind & knowledgeable in both shops.   I don’t need/use any insert but bras have pocket for them. Good luck.
