Another day waiting for what treatment I will need first.
think I may do a bit of gardening to calm me down or do a bit of drawing. What does anyone else do to chill out. Take care everyone be kind to yourselves xx
Hi, well I guess that for a few weeks I had the cleanest house in the street!! I wouldn’t say that it chilled me out, but I just couldn’t keep still. Nervous energy I suppose. Later, I got into a historical novel series (The Shipyard Girls). Not everyone’s cup of tea, but easy reads that provided escapism. I read them all through chemo, surgery, and radiotherapy and looked forward to the next one. I went for longish walks (we were in a later lockdown at the time) and this helped me a lot - being outside with nature and physically preparing me for treatment. Hope that helps a bit, xx
Deebug My story is on profile just click on name to read
Hi waiting is the worst time
I had the cleanest most organised kitchen cupboards ever
Also after MX before chemo I filled the freezer with home cooked meals and soups etc for when I didn’t feel like eating Hubbys efforts lol
Other that that then gardening and hobbies lots of us find walking very therapeutic and distracting .
It is so much better once you know what your plan is …….Concentrate on one thing at a time don’t waste energy worrying about the WHAT IFS
Have a browse around the threads on this site lots of positive stories I hang around on the AWAKE THREAD lots of friendly chat and support fro us fruit loops on there all Welcome
Hi Deebug
I think lots of us find the bit before a treatment plan is in place the most stressful! I went for lots of long brisk walks. Getting exercise and being in the fresh air really helped my mental health. Also, there’s evidence that exercise (including walking) can reduce the risk of recurrence by up to 50%, so I felt I was already giving myself treatment!
To help with sleep I bought earbuds and listened to relaxation apps or podcasts, I usually drifted off far more quickly that if I was left with my own thoughts. There are loads of free resources out there.
best wishes x
Just another thought - maybe have a look at the Look Good Feel Better website which runs great free online workshops for people going through cancer. A lot are aimed at women going through chemo so are focused on make-up/hair loss etc. But I also attended one on meditation and they run others on “chair yoga”, chair tai chi etc, so you might see something that suits you x
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
