Chemo when you've been around ill people?

Hi Guys,

Has anyone been around an ill child then had Chemo a short time afterwards?

I am due to have my second EC chemo tomorrow. I feel fine. My 5yr old had a cold this week, this weekend now she is being sick. We have Covid tested her 3 times during the week, yesterday and today - she is coming up negative. I know a lot of people have been clearly ill but tested negative for 5 or 6 days with this new variant. It may not be Covid related at all.

I am of course, going to call the Chemo unit and ask their advice on delaying treatment. But i wondered if anyone else had experience of anything similar themselves?

Yes I have, it’s hard juggling chemo and a child. You’re doing everything I would do so just keep going. I didn’t delay my treatment but I did take advice. The problem is there’s several bugs going around, I work in primary, so it could be anything and you may not get it, I was pretty resilient when it came to bugs. I did however withdraw my 12 year old for 3 weeks and homeschool when the entire school had covid last October when I was mid chemo, it just wasn't worth the risk but I appreciate keeping them off school might not be an option for you. My unit advised that I withdrew her at that point too fyi. See what they say and follow your gut x

Thank you. I will definitely call the unit tomorrow and ask them. I really don't want to stop, but i also don't want to unwittingly infect people with anything. Last time i did Chemo I was the only patient wearing a mask. Which seemed odd.

It is odd, we’re still wearing masks on our unit, you wear your mask and keep following advice x
